Nikkei gains

Japan's Nikkei average rose 0.5 percent on Tuesday, buoyed by gains in chip-linked stocks such as Advantest after a bullish outlook from flash memory maker SanDisk Corp pushed up shares of their US peers. Shares of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and its partners in a consortium aiming to win a 1.7 trillion yen ($19.08 billion) project for a Brazilian high-speed railway gained after the Nikkei business daily said the Japanese government is considering providing financial support for the bid.
