Stocks are a share of the ownership of a company. If the company does well, or even if everyone thinks the company is going to do well, the price of the stock goes up. In addition, many companies give a little dividend payment each year to the stockholders, which provides extra value.

Asian bond spreads narrow

Asian bond spreads narrowed on Thursday, lifted by unexpectedly strong US economic data overnight, but expectations of more supply capped gains in South Korean bonds. A rebound in US durable goods orders and higher sales of newly built single-family homes sparked hopes that Asias top export market is recovering from recession.

Asian bond spreads narrow

Asian bond spreads narrowed on Tuesday, as the US governments plan to rid banks of up to $1 trillion in toxic debt and unfreeze credit markets inspired investors to take more risk. A surprise rise in sales of previously owned US homes also emboldened investors to pick Asian debt and shares. Home sales rose 5.1 percent in February, the fastest pace in nearly six years.
