Stocks are a share of the ownership of a company. If the company does well, or even if everyone thinks the company is going to do well, the price of the stock goes up. In addition, many companies give a little dividend payment each year to the stockholders, which provides extra value.

BRIndex30 sheds 56.39 points

On Monday, the BRIndex30 opened in the red zone at 5,307.19 and remained there for whole of the trading time. It closed at 5,270.05 with a net negative change of -56.39 points, or -1.06 percent. It experienced intra-day high of 5,325.57 and low of 5,246.25 points.

Bearish sentiments prevail on LSE

Bearish sentiments prevailed at the Lahore Stock Exchange on Monday and the equities registered losses amid reduced trading volume due to lacking interest on the part of investors. The LSE-25 index lost 26.49 points and ended at 1680.87 against 1707.36 of last Friday while trading volume squeezed to 6.430 million shares as compared to previous volume of 7.121 million shares.

Cyprus bourse plans alternative small cap market

The Cyprus Stock Exchange plans to create a small cap alternative trading market with less regulation, slated for launch in the middle of 2009, the bourses general manager said on March 03.
