Chinas main stock index rose 0.54 percent to a five-week closing high in brisk trade on Friday, led by steel shares after a strong debut for Chinese steel futures and upbeat remarks by senior officials on the economic outlook. The Shanghai Composite Index ended at 2,374.438 points, up 4.1 percent for the week. The index has risen nine of the last 10 sessions, gaining 11.5 percent.
