Closing stock market indices

Major stock markets outside the United States ended on Monday.

FRANKFURT STOCKS EXCHANGE: The DAX index ended at 3,989.23 points, down 214.32 or 5.10 percent.

PARIS STOCKS EXCHANGE: The CAC-40 index closed at 2,719.34 points, down 121.28 or 4.27 percent.

ZURICH STOCKS EXCHANGE: The Swiss market index closed at 4,745.76 points, down 126.57 or 2.60 percent.

MILAN STOCKS EXCHANGE: The All Share Mibtel index closed at 12,420 points, down 696 or 5.31 percent.

SYDNEY STOCKS EXCHANGE: Stocks ended down 1.85 percent as top financials such as National Australia Bank fell on renewed worries over the global economy and most resources stocks fell on weaker commodities prices. The S&P/ASX 200 index fell 67.9 points to 3,604.4, breaking a run of five straight days of gains.

JOHANNESBURG STOCKS EXCHANGE: The rand weakened against the dollar and the resource-heavy local bourse took a hammering, shaken by weaker mining stocks and lower global equities. The All-share index closed at 19,929.04 points, down 732.28 or 3.54 percent. The All Gold index closed at 2,896.16 points, up 15.03 or 0.52 percent, while the Industrial index closed at 14,963.71 points, down 231.4 or 1.52 percent.
