Hong Kong shares hit five-week high

Hong Kong shares rose 3.1 percent to a five-week high on Monday as investors took heart from the US governments latest plan to stabilise financial markets, but HSBC slid as its rights began trading. HSBC weighed on the main index, dropping 3.5 percent to HK$40 as its deeply discounted rights shares began trading, adding to the volatility in the underlying shares.
