New Zealand share prices closed 1.69 percent higher on Tuesday following a surge in global markets following new US measures aimed at restoring the banking system to health, dealers said. The NZX-50 index rose 43.91 points to 2,635.33 on turnover worth 114.1 million New Zealand dollars (65.1 million US). While most of the top 50 stocks gained ground, market leader Telecom fell a cent to 2.31 dollars.
