Singapore shares closed 0.76 percent higher Friday on gains in selected blue chips, dealers said. The blue chip Straits Times Index (STI) rose 12.06 points to 1,596.92. Total volume traded reached 992 million shares worth 811 million Singapore dollars (537 million US). There were 208 rising issues, 161 losers and 890 issues were even.
