Inflation in Brazil quickened more than expected in the month to mid-May as prices of cigarettes, medicine and electricity surged, potentially putting pressure on the central bank to slow the pace of interest rate cuts. The benchmark IPCA consumer price index rose 0.59 percent in the month-long period through mid-May, quickening from a 0.36 percent gain in the month to mid-April, statistics agency IBGE said on Friday.
